The Co-operative British Youth Film Academy

Over a period of five weeks during the summer holidays, the BYFA offers activity packed summer camps in its Academy regions, centred around the production of a feature length film. The camps offer the opportunity to gain a host of invaluable skills both in front of, and behind the camera; and with full residential status for all attendees (i.e. camping!), they also promise to be a lot of fun.
Attendees have the opportunity to take on a variety of key roles in making the film, including assistant director, camera operator, editor, production assistant- even roles in the catering department!- to name just a few examples. The camps also include a series of acting and filmmaking workshops, and opportunities to create several short films as well. Activities are guided by actors (Brian Blessed and Todd Carty have both mentored in the past), professional filmmakers and heads of department. The feature films produced each year are of a high standard and are made available for purchase on DVD the following year.
